After struggling with overwhelming debt, it was time for us to make some changes. We had to stop using credit cards. We locked them up in our safe. We had to cut back on expenses and really commit to living on a budget. We had to shop at places we did not shop as often previously like Walmart, the dollar store and cut back on department store purchases. I started being more thrifty and doing things like using coupons, joining discount subscriptions like Brad's Deals. This is very hard because our bills were still huge. So even though we did this, it made very little impact in the realm of things.
I made a commitment to eating out less, eating in more, buying more food for the house, and thinking about our lifestyle. We certainly did live a very busy life, and I wondered how could we save. Well living in the city and having to give up our home was one major change we made. With children in the house, we just could not allow this to keep happening. We had to make changes to build a better life.
I had been a fan of some homestead sites, being that I grew up on a horse in the desert. I had always liked animals. My aunt had horses, goats, a cow and pigs. I told my husband I thought of a way we might be able to change our life. We had to become debt free and build a homestead. That was when I showed him how a home eats resources and cash and a homestead gives back to you. Join me as I tell you just how we plan to do it!
